Shrubby, it grows in high places on hills. It is endemic to Chile and Argentina.

Description: Deciduous leaves with smooth, reddish bark. Simple leaves, highly variable in shape and size, with entire margins. They are glossy green on the upper surface and glaucous on the underside, and have petioles. The flowers are grouped in racemes. Hermaphroditic. Calyx and corolla with 4 sepals curled outwards, 4 to 5 cm long. 4 stamens. Long, arched style.

Flowering: It blooms from September to January, depending on the shrub's location. The higher it is above sea level, the later it will flower.

Uses: It is used in gardening. The leaves and bark are applied in folk medicine against neuralgia and toothaches, and also as a healing agent. The wood is used in furniture making.
