In 2012, Jared Campbell decided to run up and down Grandeur Peak in Salt Lake City for 24 hours. The goal was to raise money to fund air quality work. A couple of friends joined him the following year. And even more the year after that. Eleven years later, Campbell's project has transformed into Running for Air: a global movement with dozens of races, hundreds of runners, and tens of thousands of dollars raised around the world. This is a story about how running can build community capable of driving change far beyond the trails.

Running Up For Air is a race, technically.

Frequently Asked Questions
No! We encourage you to raise money, but doing so is not a requirement to participate in the event.
No! We encourage everyone to participate, even if it's just by running a couple of kilometers. However, you can still get involved without running by donating directly to the partner nonprofit organization of your choice.
Throughout the challenge, we encourage you to ask your friends and family to support you with donations (this can be a fixed amount or a certain amount for each kilometer or vertical meter you complete). You can then direct these donations to a range of partner nonprofits pre-selected by Patagonia. Visit PAW to learn more about these organizations and click to donate.
You can donate at any time: during the challenge or after you finish it.
