Since 1985, Patagonia has committed 1% of its sales to preserving and restoring natural environments. We have given more than $89 million in cash and other donations to local and international grassroots environmental groups, all of which are making a difference in their communities. In 2002, Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and the owner of Blue Ribbon Flies created a nonprofit corporation to encourage other businesses to do the same.

1% for the Planet is an alliance of companies that understand the need to protect natural environments. They understand that both profits and losses are directly linked to their health and are concerned about the social and environmental impacts of industry.

If you own a business (or have influence over your boss), please consider becoming a member of this socially and environmentally progressive group. By contributing 1% of total annual sales to grassroots environmental groups, 1% for the Planet members enable real change. And members reap the benefits: the satisfaction of paving the way for greater corporate responsibility in the business community and the recognition, support, and loyalty of conscious consumers who value serious commitments to the environment.
